Program notes
I wrote this piece for David Rejano & Jörgen van Rijen who premiered it in Indiana. My main intention was to showcase some of the many possibilities of the instrument, including its agility, expressivity, virtuosity and dynamic range. It’s a fun but also very demanding way, so that it made justice to their extraordinary talent.
The playful movie reference of the title alludes to an analogy with the film, but on a small scale (a Vespa instead of a car). In this case, the two main characters, the soloists, use the piece as a vehicle to carry out the action and their message. The piece ends with another analogy to the film, the famous jump into the precipice.
